A training session on the slaughter of sacrificial animals and the preservation of hides was held in Kathalia, Jhalakathi.
The training took place at the Upazila Parishad conference room on Wednesday afternoon.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mokbul Hossain attended the session as chief guest, while Livestock Officer HM Jamshed Azad presided over the programme.
Imams, teachers, butchers, journalists, and government officials were present. It was stated during the workshop that hides of sacrificial animals are a vital asset to the national economy.
Due to a lack of proper preservation, a significant volume of hides is wasted every year. Wastage of hides can be prevented by increasing awareness and providing training at the field level.
Discussions also covered maintaining cleanliness, slaughtering animals at designated locations, preventing environmental pollution, and applying salt correctly to ensure the quality of hides remains intact.
