Trained teachers will play a crucial role in transforming the country’s higher education system, said Professor Abdullah-Al-Mamun, a member of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC).
Speaking at the Master Trainers’ Training programme of the “Senior Faculty Professional Development Program” in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday, Professor Mamun said UGC has taken the initiative to implement the government’s goal of transforming higher education.
The UGC member said building a knowledge-based, skill-oriented, and internationally standard higher education system is the current government’s commitment, and this training programme will help achieve that goal.
Through this initiative, it will be possible to improve the quality of education at the university level, enhance research capacity, and develop skilled human resources suited to the modern age, he said.
Under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project, implemented with World Bank assistance, 2,500 junior and 2,500 senior teachers will be brought under training over the next three years, Professor Mamun said.
He further said 15 Master Trainers are being developed with the cooperation of the British Council. They will lead in forming a pool to conduct training activities at the national level in the future.
Present at the event were Professor Laila Nur, Dean of University Teachers’ Training under the HEAT Project, and other concerned officials.
