Miscreants shot a trader after he refused to pay extortion money in Khulna on Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 10pm in front of Gallamari Ideal Nursing Home Clinic.
The victim, Rafiqul Islam Manik, 40, of MA Bari Road, was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment, said Sonadanga Police Station Officer‑in‑charge (OC) Md Rafiqul Islam.
He added that the trader’s business is located in front of the clinic.
According to police, a criminal demanded extortion while Manik was at his shop. When he refused, he was shot.
The OC further said joint operations by police and other forces have been continuing in Khulna since the beginning of this month to curb terrorism and drug trafficking.
