A court has directed that the child domestic worker, who was tortured at the residence of former managing director (MD) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Shafiqur Rahman, in the capital’s Uttara, be placed in the custody of her father.
The directive was issued on Monday after a hearing in the court of Judge Md Shahadat Hossain Bhuiyan of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 in Dhaka. Confirming the matter, Fahmida Akhtar, a lawyer at the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said, “The victim child has been placed in her father’s custody. From now on, she will stay with her family.”
According to the case’s First Information Report (FIR), the 11-year-old child had been working at the accused’s residence since June 2025. On January 31, when the child was returned to her father, Golam Mostafa, a hotel employee, he saw signs of beating and branding with hot pokers on his daughter’s body.
Later, the child was admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur. Following the incident, Golam Mostafa filed a case with Uttara West Police Station. Shafiqur Rahman, his wife Bithi, and two other domestic workers were made accused in the case.
