Police have arrested Chattogram’s top-listed criminal Mobarak Hossain alias David Emon from Jashore while he was attempting to cross the border and escape to India.
He was arrested in Jhumjhumpur area under the Kotwali Police Station early Wednesday.
Chattogram Superintendent of Police Masud Alam and Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime & Ops) Md Mirajul Islam confirmed the arrest.
Police said checkposts were set up in various parts of Jashore based on intelligence information. Later, David and three others were arrested at the Jhumjhumpur checkpost.
The others arrested were Al Islam Alif alias Tamal of Shyampur in Dhaka, Md Shamim of Motijheel in Dhaka, and Md Safayet Hossain of Noakhali.
The operation was jointly conducted by Jashore district and Chattogram district police. After the arrest, David was handed over to Chattogram police.
David is the son of Md Musa from Kanchannagar in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram. Locals said he once lived an ordinary life in the area. However, after joining the criminal gang, Sajjad Group, his name became linked to a series of murders in Chattogram.
Several photos of him holding foreign pistols went viral on social media. Gradually, he rose to become Sajjad’s second‑in‑command.
He later left the country and began living in Dubai, from where he reportedly called businessmen in Chattogram to demand extortion money. Those who refused to pay faced shootings and attacks on their businesses and homes.
Recently, while demanding extortion money from a businessman in the city over the phone, David told him to “ask the police” about his identity.
