Al Amin Hossain Babu (22), a store employee, has died while undergoing treatment after suffering severe burns in a chemical warehouse fire in Tongi, Gazipur.
He passed away on Friday morning around 10:30am at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The deceased, Al Amin, was from Rowmari Upazila in Kurigram and resided in the Railway Colony area of Tongi.
His colleague Mohammad Anwar Hossain said that the fire had broken out at Sahara Market in Tongi on Monday. Al Amin and his co-workers worked at a nearby hardware and paint store, and they also had a warehouse in Sahara Market.
Upon hearing about the fire, they had gone to the warehouse to save goods, during which Al Amin was caught in the flames.
Doctors at the hospital reported that 95 percent of Al Amin’s body had been burned. He died while receiving treatment in the ICU.
Earlier on Monday, a fire broke out at a semi-permanent tin-shed chemical warehouse in Sahara Market under Tongi Police Station in Gazipur. Seven units of the Fire Service worked together to control the blaze.
During firefighting, a sudden massive explosion occurred, leaving four firefighters and several local shopkeepers burned. They were immediately admitted to the Burn Institute.
Later, firefighters Shamim Ahmed and Nurul Huda succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
