Bangladesh finished their warm-up matches for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers on a high as they beat Thailand by 34 runs at the Mulpani Cricket Ground in Kathmandu on Friday.
Thailand were chasing 150 but could only manage 115 for seven in 20 overs. Nannapat Koncharoenkai stood firm with an unbeaten 52 off 48 balls. Chanida Sutthiruang scored a quick 25 off 18, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to support them.
Bangladesh stayed disciplined with the ball and kept the scoring under control. Pacer Fariha Trisna was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets for five runs. Fahima Khatun, Rabeya Khan and Shorna Akter took one wicket each.
Earlier, Bangladesh batted first and posted 149 for four from 20 overs. Juairiya Ferdous top-scored with 31. Captain Nigar Sultana made 28 and Sharmin Akhter added 27. Sobhana Mostary finished unbeaten on 24, while Shorna Akter stayed not out on 23 to give Bangladesh a strong end.
Bangladesh had also won their first warm-up match. They beat the Netherlands by 26 runs in Kritipur on Wednesday.
The Tigresses will begin their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers campaign on January 18 against the USA. They will then play Papua New Guinea on January 20, Namibia on January 22, and Ireland on January 24.
The top three teams from Group A will move to the Super Six stage and face the top three teams from Group B. The top four teams from the Super Six will qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in England and Wales in June and July this year.
