Veteran actors Abul Hayat, Dilara Zaman and Dolly Johur have reunited in a new television drama, ‘Dadi Bhoyonkor’, written and directed by Rahat Kabir, with filming recently completed.
The drama marks a rare on-screen collaboration between three of Bangladesh’s most celebrated performers. The actors previously worked together many years ago in ‘Shesh Potro’, a drama written and directed by Abul Hayat, which also featured the late Sharmili Ahmed and Chitralekha Guha.
Based on a contemporary storyline, ‘Dadi Bhoyonkor’ explores both the positive and negative impacts of the internet and modern technology. The story also highlights the importance of using technology responsibly.
Director Rahat Kabir said coordinating the schedules of three legendary actors had been a significant challenge. However, he said their wholehearted cooperation made the production possible and described the experience as one of the most memorable of his career.
Abul Hayat said productions centred on senior actors have become increasingly rare in recent years and expressed his satisfaction at being part of such a project.
Dilara Zaman said that while technology has made life easier, it also has negative aspects. She said the drama seeks to convey that message to audiences and added that working on the project brought back memories of ‘Shesh Potro’.
Dolly Johur said she was delighted to work once again with Abul Hayat and Dilara Zaman after many years. She also fondly remembered the late Sharmili Ahmed.
Dilara Zaman plays the role of the grandmother in the drama, while Abul Hayat portrays Raisul and Dolly Johur appears as Marzina. The cast also includes Nader Chowdhury, Karabi Mizan, Arsh Khan and Urbi in various roles.
‘Dadi Bhoyonkor’ is set to be released soon on a YouTube channel.
