Three people, including two students, were injured in a collision between a private car and a motorcycle in front of the main gate of Rajshahi University (RU) on Sunday afternoon.

The injured have been identified as Swadhin, a student of the university’s Marketing Department for the 2023–24 academic session, his fellow passenger, and private car driver Safiul Islam Sohel, a resident of the city’s Kashiadanga area.

Holding the private car driver responsible for the crash, motorcyclist Swadhin said, “I was riding my motorcycle in my designated lane. He [the car driver] was coming into my lane. I gave a signal as he approached, but he failed to stop and struck my bike from behind.”

However, private car driver Safiul Islam Sohel cited the motorcyclist’s careless driving as the cause of the accident. He said, “The bike driver was driving carelessly. After the accident, when I mentioned the camera in my car, they charged towards me and struck my vehicle.”

Commenting on the matter, RU Assistant Proctor Dr Md Johurul Islam said, “Action will be taken after examining the CCTV footage. Necessary steps will be taken accordingly after viewing the footage.”
