The government will set up three more liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in Moheshkhali, an island upazila of Cox’s Bazar, to resolve the country’s energy crisis.

One of the terminals will be established off the sea coast of Moheshkhali, while the remaining two will be land-based terminals situated in Matarbari.

Operations of these terminals will become visible within the next two years, informed ABM Abdus Sattar, principal secretary to the prime minister.

He shared this information during a briefing on Sunday afternoon, following an inspection of various development projects across Moheshkhali and Matarbari.

Sources mentioned that a delegation led by the principal secretary to the prime minister visited the under-construction deep sea port, coal-fired power plant, and the areas of Dhalghata, Matarbari, and Rajghat on Sunday.

Speaking at the briefing, ABM Abdus Sattar said rehabilitation arrangements would be made for individuals affected by the implementation of various development projects in Matarbari.

Qualified persons among them will be provided with employment and various other facilities.

He added that more development projects would be undertaken in Matarbari during the tenure of the current government. Once the construction of the deep sea port is finished, a major transformation will take place in the national economy.

The principal secretary said that during the tenure of the previous government, these projects did not see much light due to a subservient foreign policy. The current government has taken initiatives to complete the project work in the quickest possible time.

Bijon Kanti Sarkar, special assistant to the prime minister, Alamgir Mohammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid, local member of parliament, and senior officials of various projects were present at the time.
