Three accused arrested over the theft of construction materials from the Super Specialized Hospital of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in Shahbagh have given confessional statements in court after remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam recorded their statements on Sunday.
Earlier, on 23 April, the court granted a four-day remand following a police appeal for the sake of investigation.
After completion of remand, police produced the accused before the court, where they confessed to their involvement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
According to the case statement, the incident took place early on 21 April, when valuable construction materials were removed from the basement-2 of the hospital’s Super Specialised building using a mini truck without authorisation.
After the matter came to light, a case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station. During the investigation, police found the involvement of several individuals linked to the hospital.
The three arrested are sub-assistant engineer Al Mamun Sarker, 33, assistant computer operator Mamun Ur Rashid, 40, and another accused, Masum Billah, 35.
On 23 April, a team led by Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Ekramul Haque conducted drives in Badda and Bhatara areas and arrested them.
Police also recovered the stolen materials.
The recovered items include 10,497 kilograms of scrap iron, with an estimated market value of around Tk10 lakh.
Investigators said they are examining whether more individuals were involved. The probe is ongoing.
