The passenger handling capacity at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will increase by 1.5 to two times once the Third Terminal becomes operational, said Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq.

He made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with a 15-member delegation of the Bangladesh Aviation and Tourism Journalists Association (BATJA) on Thursday morning.

The CAAB chairman said “The Third Terminal will feature modern immigration systems and automated customs facilities to improve passenger service standards.”

He added that a multi-level car parking facility will help ease traffic congestion.

He further said network issues at the Third Terminal will not be a major problem. He said coverage can be further improved through the installation of repeaters.

Highlighting government priority in the aviation sector, Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq said work is underway to reopen eight closed airports, including Bogura, Ishwardi, Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat.
