The long-awaited film Thikana Bangladesh, based on the historic journey of the Swadhin Bangla Football Team during Bangladesh’s Liberation War, has officially begun its promotional campaign with the release of its first poster.
The poster was unveiled on 25 July, a date that holds special significance in the country’s history.
Directed by Anam Biswas, the film tells the story of the Swadhin Bangla Football Team, highlighting its sacrifice, patriotism and role in Bangladesh’s struggle for independence.
On 25 July 1971, the Swadhin Bangla Football Team played against the Nadia Football XI in India.
The match marked the first time a Bangladeshi team took to the field carrying the red-and-green flag on foreign soil, making it one of the most memorable chapters of the Liberation War.
Inspired by that historic event, Thikana Bangladesh brings the team’s remarkable journey to the big screen.
The newly released poster reflects the spirit of wartime Bangladesh.
It features a footballer’s statue standing before a flooded landscape, with fighter aircraft overhead and the national flag flying beside it.
The imagery combines the themes of football and the Liberation War, symbolising resistance, sacrifice and the nation’s fight for freedom.
The film received government funding for the 2019–20 fiscal year.
Its cast includes Arifin Shuvoo, Nusraat Faria, Rezwan Parvez, Khairul Basar, Irfan Sajjad, Azad Abul Kalam, Shatabdi Wadud and several other actors.
Director Anam Biswas said the team plans to release Thikana Bangladesh later this year and has begun promotional activities ahead of its theatrical release.
According to sources involved with the project, the film is expected to arrive in cinemas in December, subject to the planned schedule.
Beyond depicting the Liberation War, Thikana Bangladesh will focus on the Swadhin Bangla Football Team’s achievements on the field, its patriotism and its contribution to building international support for Bangladesh’s independence during the 1971 war.
