Leonardo DiCaprio’s Academy Award-winning film ‘The Revenant’ is set to return to theatres on March 13 as part of the film’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
The announcement was made on Monday by 20th Century Studios, who shared the news on their official Instagram account.
The re-release will see the critically acclaimed survival drama screened internationally, including in the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico, according to Deadline.
Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, The Revenant originally premiered in 2015 and earned DiCaprio the long-coveted Academy Award for Best Actor. The actor portrayed frontiersman Hugh Glass, a man left for dead in the wilderness, enduring months of harsh conditions and extreme physical challenges to deliver one of the most intense performances of his career.
DiCaprio has previously described the role as “the most difficult film, I think, that any of us has ever done. It was almost like a silent-movie performance,” according to Variety. The story, inspired by true events, follows Glass as he struggles through brutal winters, faces attacks from Native Americans, and survives a near-fatal bear mauling.
The film was widely recognised at award shows, securing wins at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, Critics’ Choice Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards in addition to the Oscars.
DiCaprio remains a strong contender for another Academy Award this year. The 98th Oscars, scheduled for March 15, feature him in the Best Actor category for ‘One Battle After Another’, alongside Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent). Conan O’Brien will return as host for the ceremony.
