Tollywood actress Srabanti Chatterjee is set to surprise audiences in the upcoming web series ‘Thakumar Jhuli’, set to stream on Hoichoi from March 20, where she takes on the role of 65-year-old Girijabala Sanyal.

The series promises a compelling blend of fantasy and character-driven storytelling, giving viewers a rare look at Srabanti in a dramatically different avatar.
For the veteran actress, the role marks a break from her usual commercial film image. She gained weight to authentically portray Girijabala, relying on her own physical transformation rather than makeup or prosthetics. “This role is a true blessing,” Srabanti told Indian media Ei Samay, adding, “It allows me to explore a side of acting I have never experienced before.”
The preparation was not without its challenges. Srabanti addressed social media criticism regarding her weight and personal life, noting that such negativity often comes from frustration or idleness.
“Maintaining mental peace is essential for survival in this industry,” she said, emphasising the importance of focusing on the craft rather than commentary.
While fully committed to Thakumar Jhuli, Srabanti also revealed plans to step into production, eyeing thrillers and romantic projects, and hinted at expanding her work to Hindi OTT platforms, signalling a new phase in her career.
