Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has called upon the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to maintain strict vigilance to ensure that no criminals or terrorists flee through the border from Bangladesh.
He made this call while speaking at an event held to mark BGB Day 2025 at the BGB Headquarters on Monday morning. Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui were also present at the event.
Home Adviser Jahangir said, “BGB is playing a unique role as a three-dimensional force in protecting the country’s borders, maintaining law and order, and conducting public welfare activities. Efforts for the development of BGB are ongoing,” he said.
“Therefore, duties must be performed with dedication in an extremely ‘nano’ manner, like vigilant sentinels of the border, while keeping the national interest coordinated. No narcotics can be allowed to enter through the border. Extra caution must be taken in sensitive areas,” he said.
He added, “No local products can be allowed to be smuggled abroad through the border by evading the eyes of BGB. Strict legal measures must be taken against those officers and employees who assist or help smugglers and drug traffickers.”
The Home Adviser said, “Just as no kind of compromise can be made in training, no kind of compromise can be made in discipline either, and the welfare of subordinates must always be looked after.”
“And extreme tact and competence must be demonstrated in resolving border issues with neighbouring countries. The country’s interest must be protected 100 percent,” he continued.
Mentioning that smugglers who use the border must be brought under the law, he said that necessary measures must be taken by maintaining close contact with law enforcement agencies and the district administration.
