Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva has reached her first Grand Slam final after defeating Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk 6-1, 6-3 in the French Open women’s singles semi-final, booking her place in Saturday’s showpiece with a dominant straight-sets display at Roland Garros.
The 19-year-old was commanding from the outset, leaving Kostyuk with little answer across both sets as Andreeva moved through the gears with remarkable composure for a player of her age. Having been eliminated at the semi-final stage at the same tournament in 2024, she left no room for a repeat disappointment this time around.
Andreeva will face either fellow Russian Diana Schnyder, the 25th seed, or Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska in the final on Saturday 7 June.
The achievement places Andreeva in rare company historically. In reaching a French Open final at just 19 years of age, she becomes only the fourth youngest woman to do so in the past 30 years, joining tennis legends Martina Hingis, Kim Clijsters and Coco Gauff on that distinguished list.
The stakes could not be higher on Saturday. Should Andreeva win the title, she would become only the third youngest first-time Grand Slam champion of this century, behind only Maria Sharapova and Emma Raducanu.
