A 14-year-old schoolboy was shot dead during a violent clash between two local groups over territorial control in Raipura upazila, Narsingdi.
At least 10 people from both sides were injured, including three others who were shot in the incident on Wednesday morning in Saydabad area of Srinagar union.
Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mujibur Rahman confirmed the incident.
Police, army, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed immediately to restore order.
The victim, Mustakim Mia, was the son of Masud Rana, a Saudi expatriate, and a seventh-grade student at a local school.
The other three shot in the clash include Rafiqul Islam (37), Sohan (26), and Rozina Begum (35), all residents of Saydabad.
Sources said a long-standing dispute over control of the Charanchal Saydabad area exists between the groups led by Hanif Master and Ershad Mia.
Previous clashes between the two factions have left at least eight people, including women, shot dead.
On Wednesday morning, supporters of Ershad Mia attacked the homes of Hanif Master’s followers armed with firearms and locally made weapons. A gunfight broke out, during which Mustakim was shot and killed on the spot.
Mustakim’s mother, Shahana Begum, alleged that the fatal bullet was fired by Masum, nephew of former UP member Firoz Mia of the Ershad’s group.
OC Mujibur Rahman said “Additional police have been deployed to the area. An operation is underway to identify and arrest those involved.”
