BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan has said that the mass uprising of ’24 was rooted in the core principle of Bangladeshi nationalism. He stated that Tarique Rahman was one of the behind-the-scenes actors in that mass uprising. Through his sincere efforts, everyone contributed to restoring democracy in Bangladesh. This accelerated the mass uprising of ’24 and forced the autocratic Awami League government to flee the country.
He made these remarks at a discussion meeting held in the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club on Sunday afternoon. The discussion was organised to mark the publication of the book “Theoretical Analysis of Bangladeshi Nationalism: The Crisis of Civic and Ethnic Nationalism” by Dr Maruf Mallik, initiated by the ‘7 November Generation’ organization.
The meeting was presided over by BNP’s Organising Secretary Selim Bhuiyan. Speakers included BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, journalist Amirul Islam Kagaji, and the book’s author, political analyst Maruf Mallik.
Addressing the July-August generation, Abdul Moyeen Khan said, “Let us be inspired by the ideal expressed by the martyred president Ziaur Rahman: ‘The party is greater than the individual, and the country is greater than the party.‘ Let us follow the ideal of Bangladeshi nationalism. Only then can we re-establish Bangladesh as a respected nation in the world.”
He added, “Bangladeshi nationalism was defined as a garland of flowers, where each flower represents a Bengali, Chakma, Marma, Santal, Phul, Gola, or Munda. Martyred president Ziaur Rahman introduced Bangladeshi nationalism as a garland where different flowers coexist, but when it comes to Bangladesh, it becomes a unified garland. This garland was named Bangladeshi nationalism.”
Reflecting on the leadership of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman after Ziaur Rahman’s death, the senior BNP leader stated, “BNP is moving forward on this path to establish democracy and will continue to do so.”
