BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed gratitude to the people for their love for his recently deceased mother and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, to neighbouring and friendly nations for showing respect, and to the interim government for organising a solemn final farewell.
He conveyed the message in this post on Facebook after the three-day state mourning for Khaleda Zia ended on Friday.
The post read, “The love, condolences, and prayers received from well-wishers across the country and abroad have deeply moved our family.
“Over these three days, we have further realised that my mother held different meanings for different people; in many cases, it was so profound that perhaps even we could not fully comprehend it.”
It added, “For many, she was a symbol of uncompromising spirit; an unwavering inspiration to stand courageously for one’s beliefs. This inspiration extended far beyond the bounds of politics; transcending identity, ideology, and position, it touched countless people.”
Tarique expressed gratitude to the interim government, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, and his Council of Advisers for arranging a solemn final farewell for Khaleda Zia within a short time. He also praised their leadership.
He also extended sincere thanks to neighbouring countries in the international arena, as well as to leaders, diplomats, and partners from around the world, both at home and abroad.
The acting chairman said, “The solidarity and sympathy from heads of government of various countries have deeply stirred our hearts.
“The presence of distinguished individuals from different nations at the funeral prayers, letters and messages of condolence, words written in the condolence book, the outpouring of countless sentiments on social media, and the official statements from missions and various institutions in Bangladesh – each of these honours was unprecedented.”
Tarique thanked every member of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and those associated with the administration and various ministries for performing their duties.
He mentioned, “We are grateful to all who played a role in ensuring these days of mourning were completed with dignity and honour. I would especially like to thank the President Guard Regiment.
“Their honour guard and final salute have paid the highest tribute to my mother’s life and contributions. By bringing her to the grave, they reflected the nation’s respect and love and illuminated the final journey with deserved honour.”
On behalf of the entire Zia family, he expressed gratitude to all those people who impartially assisted in smoothly completing this entire process.
Tarique conveyed deep appreciation to the people of Bangladesh.
He said, “Our family will never forget the sight of so many people gathering from every corner of the country to pay their respects to the national leader. This strong and united presence reflects the public’s empathy and emotions.”
Tarique pointed out, “Your love and solidarity have provided us with consolation and strength, and we will carry it forward with gratitude into the future Bangladesh.”
