The nomination of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, has been declared valid for Dhaka-17 constituency as well.
Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, the returning officer for 13 Dhaka constituencies, made the announcement on Saturday, after completing the scrutiny at the Office of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
The nomination of Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate, SM Khaliduzzaman, for this constituency has also been declared valid. Previously, Tarique Rahman’s nomination was declared valid for the Bogura-6 constituency.
Chowdhury informed the media that the decision was taken following all stages of nomination paper scrutiny. After reviewing objections, allegations, and documents, the candidacies of Tarique Rahman and SM Khaliduzzaman have been declared valid.
During the announcement, leaders and activists from various levels, including the BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Abdus Salam on behalf of Tarique Rahman, were present at the returning officer’s office.
Representatives of Tarique Rahman expressed satisfaction over the declaration. Besides, Jamaat candidate SM Khaliduzzaman himself was present with his supporters there. The returning officer further informed that 17 nomination papers had been submitted for the Dhaka-17 constituency.
