Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal secured the highest number of votes in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors’ election held on Sunday.
Voting began at 10:00am at the BCB headquarters in Mirpur and continued until 4:00pm. Before the Election Commission informally published the results at around 6:00pm, The Times of Bangladesh had obtained a copy of the result sheet.
Representing Old DOHS Sports Club as a Category-2 councillor, Tamim was elected as a BCB director after receiving 73 of the 76 votes cast, the highest tally among all candidates in the category. Alongside Tamim, 11 other directors were elected from Category-2, which comprises clubs and institutions.
Syed Ibrahim Ahmed of Fair Fighters Sporting Club and Israfil Khosru of Axiom Cricketers received 72 votes each.
Veteran sports organiser Masudduzzan of Mohammedan Sporting Club secured 70 votes, while Yasir Mohammad Faisal Ashique of Bashundhara Riders, who previously served as a BCB director under the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led board, was elected with 68 votes.
Shanian Taneem of Dhaka Mariners Youngs Club and Fahim Sinha of Abahani Limited received 66 votes each. Sakif Ahmed Salam of Purbachal Sporting Club secured 65 votes, Asif Rabbani of Shinepukur Cricket Club 64, and Mirza Yasir Abbas of Azad Sporting Club 63.
Rafiqul Islam Babu of Indira Road Krira Chakra was elected with 53 votes, while Professor Dr Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim of Dhaka Wanderers Club secured 41 votes to claim the final available position.
Of the 16 candidates contesting in Category-2, four failed to secure a place on the board. Former BCB directors Amzad Hossain and Faiazur Rahman Mitu received 32 and 20 votes respectively. Major Imroz of Kathalbagan Green Crescent Club also polled 20 votes, while Syed Borhanul Hossain of Tejgaon Cricket Academy received 40.
In Category-1, which represents divisional and district sports associations, Md Shafiqul Alam and Shantanu Islam were elected from Khulna Division after receiving 10 votes each. In Barishal Division, Md Mizanur Rahman secured election with five of the seven votes cast.
Seven directors had already been elected unopposed before Sunday’s polling.
Saeed Bin Zaman and SM Abdullah Al Fuad were elected from Dhaka Division without opposition. Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury of the Sylhet Divisional Sports Association, Mir Shakhrul Alam Shimanto of the Bogura District Sports Association and Mirza Faisal Amin of the Thakurgaon District Sports Association also secured unopposed victories.
From Chattogram Division, Moin Uddin Chowdhury and Minhajul Abedin Nannu were elected unopposed.
In Category-3, former director Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir was elected unopposed after being the sole candidate to submit a nomination. No other nominations were filed in the category.

Elected through voting: Md Shafiqul Alam (Khulna Division, 10 votes), Shantanu Islam (Khulna Division, 10 votes) and Md Mizanur Rahman (Barishal Division, 5 votes).
