Bangladesh T20 captain Litton Das has raised concerns over tailenders’ batting while backing the overall depth of the squad. Litton, who has been leading the T20 side since 2025, made the comments on Sunday at the Bir Sreshtho Shahid Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram, ahead of the T20I series opener against New Zealand.
He said that while T20 cricket demands an attacking approach and early wickets are often unavoidable, contributions from the lower order remain important.
“If you talk about weaknesses, in the T20 format you have to play attacking cricket. There, losing a couple of early wickets is inevitable,” Litton said.
Bangladesh, however, have long struggled with lower-order batting firepower. At the same time, players like Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Nasum Ahmed have shown the ability to contribute with the bat in the final overs.
Litton believes those contributions are crucial in building a more complete batting unit.
“Our main concern is that if we can get batting contributions from players like Mahedi, Nasum or Rishad, who are primarily spinners and if the all-rounders can contribute as well, then we can build a healthy batting order,” he said.
He also pointed to the importance of batting depth in modern T20 cricket. “Big teams have batting depth up to number nine. If we can create that depth, then our top-order batters will be able to play more freely.”
Litton, who has led the side for over a year, said he has shaped the team according to his vision, combining six specialist batters with multiple all-round options, alongside a balanced pace and spin attack.
Despite missing the last T20 World Cup in India due to security concerns, Litton feels the team has moved on and is now in a better place.
“Overall, it’s good. In my opinion, we usually have six genuine batters in this side. And as you know, both Rishad and Mahedi can bat as well. Among the pace bowlers, there’s Shakib and Saifuddin. Saqlain has also recently joined. So overall, it feels like a very balanced side to me,” he added.
