Filmmaker Raihan Rafi has dismissed speculation linking actress Mehazabien Chowdhury to his upcoming film Surongo 2, saying no casting decisions have been finalised yet.
Rumours have circulated on social media over the past two days claiming that Mehazabien would join the sequel, which is currently in pre-production.
Her name has also appeared in several unofficial lists of potential cast members.
Responding to the speculation, Rafi said the reports are unfounded.
“Nothing like that has happened. Some people are making different posts on Facebook, but no artist has been finalised yet. We will officially decide on the casting next month. Everything will be announced then,” he said.
The director added that most of the names currently circulating online are based on speculation rather than confirmed information.
“Most of the names being shared now are merely assumptions. Until we officially finalise the cast, none of this information is accurate. We will reveal everything ourselves at the right time,” he said.
Released during Eid-ul-Adha in 2023, Surongo marked the big-screen debut of popular television actor Afran Nisho.
Produced by Shahriar Shakil and directed by Raihan Rafi, the film received widespread praise for Nisho’s performance as Masud and became both a critical and commercial success at home and abroad.
The film also won eight National Film Awards, cementing its place as one of the most successful Bangladeshi releases of the year.
Rafi and Nisho are now set to reunite for Surongo 2.
The sequel remains in the pre-production stage, with details about the full cast, crew and shooting schedule expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
