Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, former president Ziaur Rahman, and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
He laid a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar around 11:40am and observed a moment of silence. A contingent of the Armed Forces gave him a guard of honour, and he signed the visitors’ book.
Hafiz Uddin arrived at the memorial at 11:35am and exchanged greetings with the chiefs of the three services and other officials.
From there, he went to Zia Mausoleum in Sher‑e‑Bangla Nagar and placed wreaths at the graves of Zia and Khaleda.
After the tribute programmes, he visited the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Hafiz Uddin assumed office as the acting president on Friday, in line with the Constitution, after Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad took over following the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
Shahabuddin resigned under Article 50(3) of the Constitution, citing ill health.
