As part of Victory Day celebrations, a group of students at Dhaka University expressed their hatred by hurling shoes at a caricature of Ghulam Azam.
The programme was held around 1:30pm on Tuesday in front of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) building.
Alongside throwing shoes at Ghulam Azam’s caricature, participants also chanted various slogans, including “Pakistani dalalera, hushiari shabdhan” (“Pakistani collaborators, beware!”)
One student present said, “Ghulam Azam and the Nizamis opposed the great Liberation War of 1971. Their successors are now opposing this great Liberation War by calling it an Indian conspiracy. We have seen this year that Islami Chhatra Shibir organised programmes describing them as the ‘shurjo shontan‘ (‘glorious son of the nation’) of this country. We reject that with hatred.”
“And that is why, on Victory Day today, we organised this programme of hurling shoes at Ghulam Azam’s face,” the student added.
