The Sammilito Chhatra Jote has warned that it will take a tough stance if the results of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) elections are not declared by Friday.
Mazharul Islam, a general secretary candidate from the alliance, issued the warning at a press conference held in front of the JUCSU Election Commission office at 5pm.
More than 24 hours have passed since voting ended, but the commission failed to announce the results, he said.
“Only the vote counts for the 21 residence halls have been completed. We know the central student union has nearly double the number of candidates. This has created uncertainty.”
“We see a group of BNP-backed teachers still trying to disrupt the polls through various conspiracies. If the results are not declared today (Friday), we will be compelled to take a tough stance,” he said.
However, Mazharul has accused Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BAGCAS) of obstructing the automated counting process on a false pretext.
“They labelled the vote-counting machine company as a Jamaat-backed institution, although we presented evidence. Despite this, vote counting is being carried out manually in an irrational way, causing immense sufferings for teachers and students.”
“We demand the immediate announcement of the JUCSU election results,” he said.
