A fourth-grade student died of dengue fever while undergoing treatment at Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital on Saturday evening.
The deceased, Suraiya Akter Jerin, was a student of Jhalakathi Harachandra Girls’ High School. She was the only child of Jamal Khan, a Bangladesh Army sergeant, and a resident of the Kalabagan area of the town.
Family members said Jerin developed a fever seven days earlier. As her condition worsened, she was admitted to hospital, where tests confirmed dengue infection.
Her death has cast a deep shadow of grief over her family, relatives, and the local community, said her maternal uncle, Mizanur Rahman.
