The beloved Harry Potter audiobooks have officially arrived on Spotify, giving fans a new way to experience J K Rowling’s iconic fantasy series. From July 1st, Spotify Premium subscribers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand can listen to the editions narrated by Stephen Fry. The Jim Dale-narrated versions are also available for listeners across North America.
According to Deadline, the release marks the first time the acclaimed audiobooks have become available on Spotify following a licensing agreement between the streaming platform and Pottermore Publishing. The audiobook editions of Rowling’s seven-book series first debuted in 1999 and have remained among the most popular titles in the format.
Before their Spotify launch, the audiobooks had been available on Audible since 2015, where they accumulated more than 1.8 billion listening hours worldwide.
Spotify has also expanded its Wizarding World collection by adding several companion titles in the launch markets. These include The Tales of Beedle the Bard, narrated by a cast featuring Jude Law, Noma Dumezweni and Bonnie Wright; Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, narrated by Eddie Redmayne; and Quidditch Through the Ages, narrated by Andrew Lincoln.
Commenting on the launch, Duncan Bruce, Spotify’s Director of Partnerships and Licensing, described the Harry Potter books as an iconic series brought to life by two legendary narrators and cherished by generations of fans around the world.
He said Spotify was pleased to make the audiobooks available to an even wider audience while continuing to connect readers and fan communities with the stories they love. He added that, alongside companion titles, film soundtracks and podcasts, Spotify offers fans an immersive way to explore the Wizarding World.
The Harry Potter franchise continues to dominate the audiobook market. Audible recently released a new full-cast adaptation of the series featuring an ensemble cast instead of a single narrator. Meanwhile, anticipation continues to build ahead of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series.
