Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner (Acting) Md Sarwar has urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity or unfamiliar faces in their neighborhoods as the capital witnesses increased security ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

In a statement to the media on Tuesday, Sarwar emphasised that although the police force is smaller than the city’s population requires, law enforcement agencies are working in close coordination to maintain public order.

He stressed the importance of public awareness and cooperation in ensuring safety, especially during the busy Eid period.

With Eid approaching, the police have ramped up security measures across Dhaka, deploying additional personnel and coordinating efforts with intelligence agencies.

Residents are urged to be particularly vigilant for any unusual activity, such as the sudden appearance of unknown individuals, repeated motorcycle patrols, or groups of strangers engaging in suspicious discussions.

Sarwar further advised locals to stay alert and, if necessary, work together to inquire about the identity and purpose of unfamiliar individuals in their vicinity.

“If you notice any suspicious behaviour, please contact your nearest police station or call the national emergency number, 999,” he said.

Md Sarwar reiterated that the police are committed to 24/7 duty, especially during the Eid period, and urged the public to cooperate to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration.
