A cleanliness drive has begun in Tangail aiming to quickly remove waste from sacrificial animals after Eid-ul-Adha and build a cleaner city.
On Friday morning, Local MP and Fisheries and Livestock Affairs State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku inaugurated the campaign on the main road in the Bebystand area of Tangail town.
After the inauguration, cleanup work started from Bebystand Madrasa field and continued through Thanar Mor and the main roads of the market area. More than 50 leaders and activists of the district Jubo Dal took part in the drive. They used brooms and cleaning equipment to remove waste scattered across roads and nearby areas.
Among those present were former district BNP member secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu, district Jubo Dal acting member secretary Jahid Hossain Mala, district Swechchhasebak Dal member secretary Saleh Mohammad Shafi Ethen, district Fisheries Jubo Dal general secretary Mostofa Kamal, along with leaders of city and thana level Swechchhasebak Dal.
Organisers said waste from sacrificial animals after Eid often creates public inconvenience in different parts of the city. The initiative was taken by Swechchhasebak Dal to involve citizens alongside the municipality and raise awareness about cleanliness.
Swechchhasebak Dal member secretary Saleh Mohammad Shafi Ethen said the cleanup work began early in the morning under the leadership of State Minister Tuku, focusing on clearing the badly affected Bebystand area roads. He expressed hope that visible waste in the city would be removed within the day.
State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku said everyone must act responsibly to keep the city clean. He said the programme aims to raise awareness and encourage people about cleanliness. He added that a joint effort could turn Tangail into a cleaner and more liveable city.
He further said maintaining cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility. He noted that the municipality alone cannot clean the entire city in a short time. However, with cooperation from all, the city can be kept clean much faster.
