Star Cineplex is set to launch four big-budget international films simultaneously on Friday (24 July), offering audiences a mix of supernatural horror, psychological suspense, family animation and a 3D concert experience.
The four releases are Evil Dead Burn, Passenger, Time Hoppers: The Silk Road and Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour.
Evil Dead Burn marks the sixth instalment in the globally acclaimed Evil Dead franchise and serves as a direct sequel to the successful Evil Dead Rise. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček and produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, the film stars Souheila Yacoub, Hunter Doohan and Luciane Buchanan. It follows a young widow who seeks comfort with her late husband’s family in a remote house, only to witness their reunion descend into a nightmare after the cursed Book of the Dead awakens demonic forces that transform family members into bloodthirsty Deadites.
Directed by André Øvredal, Passenger stars Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell and Melissa Leo. The psychological horror thriller follows young couple Maddie and Tyler, whose van-life road trip takes a terrifying turn after they witness a horrific road accident. Their nightmare begins after they try to rescue an injured passenger and discover they have brought home a supernatural demonic entity known as the Passenger.
Time Hoppers: The Silk Road, produced by Star-Kinekor Productions, targets younger audiences and families. Set in 2050, the animated science-fiction adventure follows four gifted students from Akli Academy who accidentally travel back to Baghdad in AD 825 after losing control of an advanced time-travel device. They must stop an evil alchemist named Fasid from erasing scientific discoveries from history and save some of the world’s greatest scientists.
The fourth release, Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, combines music and cinema in a special 3D concert film created by legendary filmmaker James Cameron and global pop star Billie Eilish. Presented by Paramount Pictures, the film features Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell and captures the Manchester stop of the singer’s Hit Me Hard and Soft world tour. Filmed using Cameron’s advanced virtual reality 3D camera technology, the production aims to recreate the feeling of watching the concert from the VIP section while showcasing chart-topping hits including Birds of a Feather and Lunch with Dolby sound.
