Sri Lanka are planning a big change in their cricket system. The move will also change how players are paid. Under the new plan, players will not get bonuses for beating teams like Bangladesh. Instead, they may face penalties if they lose. These rules are set to be introduced by Sri Lanka Cricket.
Before this, players got bonuses for beating teams ranked from 1 to 9 in the ICC rankings. Now, they will only get bonuses if they beat a top four team. Also, winning just one match will not be enough.
The reward system will change as well. Bigger wins will bring bigger bonuses. Away series wins will bring more money. Home wins will bring less because of home advantage. If a team loses a series, players will have to pay fines.
Reports in Sri Lankan media say the board will soon present this plan to the players.
Bonus structure
Test cricket (away series win):
Beat No. 1 team: $150,000
Beat No. 2 team: $100,000
Beat No. 3 team: $75,000
Beat No. 4 team: $60,000
Test cricket (home series win):
Beat No. 1 team: $100,000
Beat No. 2 team: $75,000
Beat No. 3 team: $50,000
Beat No. 4 team: $25,000
ODI series win:
Bonuses will depend on rankings and whether the series is home or away. Away wins will bring higher rewards.
T20I series win:
Same bonus for both home and away series, equal to an ODI away series win.
Match fees:
Test: $15,000 for a win, $10,000 for a draw, $7,500 for a loss
ODI: $7,500 for a win, $3,500 for a loss, $3,000 if no result
T20I: $5,000 for a win, $2,500 for a loss, $2,000 if no result
This means players must win matches and avoid losses. They will also hope games are not washed out.
The board will also give personal rewards. A player who reaches No. 1 in rankings will get $25,000. Players ranked from 2 to 5 will get $20,000.
