Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the next edition of the Lanka Premier League will begin on 8 July 2025 after the tournament was postponed from its original December window, aligning the domestic T20 competition with preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The final is set for 8 August, returning the five team league to a mid year slot. The postponement means Sri Lankan players will be free to participate in the ILT20 and the BPL during the original December period.
SLC said the decision was shaped by the demands of hosting the 2026 T20 World Cup, which Sri Lanka will stage jointly with India in February and March. Ensuring venues are prepared on time was described as a central factor in moving the LPL.
Prasanna Rodrigo, Sri Lanka Cricket’s media manager, said the revised dates were chosen to align with the broader operational plan for the World Cup. “The LPL schedule has been adjusted to match venue readiness and the overall requirements for hosting the tournament,” Rodrigo said.
