Bangladesh Railway will operate 20 special trains on 10 routes on 25 December to facilitate the travel of BNP leaders, activists, and supporters on the return of the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
The special trains will operate on the following routes: Cox’s Bazar–Dhaka–Cox’s Bazar; Jamalpur–Mymensingh–Dhaka–Jamalpur; Tangail–Dhaka–Tangail; Bhairab Bazar–Narsingdi–Dhaka–Narsingdi–Bhairab Bazar; Joydebpur–Dhaka Cantonment–Joydebpur (Gazipur); Panchagarh–Dhaka–Panchagarh; Khulna–Dhaka–Khulna; Chatmohar–Dhaka Cantonment–Chatmohar; Rajshahi–Dhaka–Rajshahi; and Jashore–Dhaka–Jashore.
In addition, extra coaches will be added to several regular trains as required. The railway authorities expect to generate approximately Tk 3.6 million in revenue through these measures.
However, due to the special arrangements, the journeys of three regular short‑distance commuter trains — Rajbari Commuter (Rajbari–Poradaha), Dhalarchar Express (Pabna–Rajshahi), and Rohonpur Commuter (Rohonpur–Rajshahi) — will remain suspended on that day.
The move has been taken to ensure smooth transportation by operating special trains and attaching additional coaches. The decision was announced in a notification signed on Monday by Rezaual Karim Siddiqui, senior information officer of the Ministry of Railways.
According to the notification, BNP’s central and regional offices had applied for special trains and extra coaches to facilitate the movement of party leaders and supporters to Dhaka on the occasion of Tarique Rahman’s return. In response, Bangladesh Railway approved the arrangements.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Railways has expressed regret over the temporary inconvenience caused to passengers on the affected routes due to the one‑day suspension of the three trains. Instructions have also been issued to ensure compliance with the Election Code of Conduct 2025 in the use of special trains and additional coaches by party leaders and activists.
