Special operations against drug dealers are currently underway across the country as part of the government’s ongoing anti-narcotics campaign, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told Parliament on Wednesday.
Responding to a written question from ruling party lawmaker Khairul Kabir Khokon (Narsingdi-1) during the question-and-answer session, the minister said a nationwide special drive against illegal drug traders will also be conducted in the first 60 days of the 2026–27 fiscal year under the government’s action plan.
He said that between 17 February and 31 May, law enforcement agencies conducted 30,744 anti-drug operations across the country. During the same period, 9,251 cases were filed and 9,685 drug traffickers were arrested and brought to justice.
The minister added that lists of drug dealers are being prepared and continuously updated as part of efforts to curb the spread of narcotics.
He said the Narcotics Control Department has formulated short, medium and long-term action plans along with implementation strategies in line with the election manifesto, aiming to ensure strict enforcement of a “zero tolerance” policy against drugs.
He further said that district and upazila-level lists of illegal drug traders, as well as updated records at police station level in metropolitan areas, are being maintained on an ongoing basis.
Salahuddin Ahmed reiterated that the government remains committed to a zero-tolerance stance against drugs, noting that updating lists of offenders is a continuous process carried out by law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
He also said that since 1 May, special nationwide operations have been in progress under specific plans to recover drugs, seize illegal firearms and arrest individuals involved in related criminal activities.
