Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, has expressed hope that democracy will take a permanent shape in the country and that no one will face persecution for political beliefs under the current BNP-led government.
He made the remarks while exchanging Eid-ul-Azha greetings with administrative officials, political leaders, activists and devotees after Eid prayers at the central Eidgah ground in Lalmohan upazila on Thursday.
“Citizens are enjoying freedom of speech and there is no fear among them since the current government assumed office. This is the benefit of democracy,” he said.
The Speaker urged affluent people to share the joy of Eid-ul-Azha with underprivileged communities.
He said he firmly believes that a democratic government in the coming days will reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government will work for the welfare of ordinary citizens.
He also said the dreams of the Liberation War have still not been fully realised, despite long struggles and sacrifices that restored democracy in the country.
Referring to the global situation, he said Muslim-majority countries are suffering due to oppression by global superpowers. He also alleged that an international conspiracy is being carried out against Muslims.
Local administrative officials and political leaders were present on the occasion.
