The second day of the third round of the National Cricket League saw another round of near-centuries as Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Naim and Shahidul Islam fell short of three figures, while Tanvir Islam and Abu Jayed starred with the ball.
Tanvir shines with five wickets
Barishal captain Tanvir Islam took five wickets for 102 runs against Rajshahi at Khulna, helping his team reduce a 23-run first-innings deficit to just one run by the end of the day. Rajshahi, who started their second innings at 6 without loss, lost five wickets for 65 runs before Pritam Kumar (65) and Sanjamul Islam (38) steadied the innings with a 76-run partnership. Later, Ali Mohammad Walid (45*) added crucial runs for the lower order.
Soumya falls for 92
Khulna batsman Soumya Sarkar missed out on a century, dismissed for 92 by the catch of Shah Poran against Chittagong. Khulna ended their first innings on 249/8, with Ziaur Rahman unbeaten on 55, still trailing Rajshahi by 102 runs.
Mohammad Naim and Shahidul miss centuries
At Cox’s Bazar, Mymensingh’s opener Mohammad Naim fell for 90 from 156 balls, unable to reach the milestone. Shahidul Islam later scored 79, also missing out on a century, after putting on a 75-run partnership with Arif Ahmed (31) for the ninth wicket. Mymensingh were all out for 336.
Bowling stars dominate
In other matches, Abu Jayed restricted Rangpur to 44/5 early before Tanvir Haider and Abu Hasim added 49 runs to steady the innings. Salauddin Shakil claimed four wickets for Dhaka.
Sylhet, starting at 7 wickets for 172 runs, were all out for 199 in their first innings. Rangpur, replying, lost six wickets for 67 runs under the consistent attack of Abu Jayed Rahy, before Haider and Hasim added 49 runs together.
