Sophie Turner has responded to long-standing speculation about a possible return to Westeros, offering a careful and measured view on playing Sansa Stark again in a future ‘Game of Thrones’sequel.
As HBO continues to expand the franchise with series such as ‘House of the Dragon’ and the upcoming ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’, fans have renewed questions about whether original characters could reappear. Interest increased after author George R. R. Martin recently confirmed that, alongside several prequels, the studio is also developing potential sequel ideas.
In a recent interview, Turner directly addressed the possibility of reprising her role as Sansa Stark. She initially joked that money would play a role, but she quickly adopted a more thoughtful stance. Turner said she would consider returning only if the creative direction felt justified and meaningful.
She emphasised that the original series, which ran for eight seasons and ended in 2019, created a unique experience that may be difficult to repeat. Turner said she would need to read a strong script before agreeing to any sequel, adding that revisiting the story without a clear purpose could weaken its legacy.
Turner also explained that her hesitation comes from satisfaction with Sansa’s conclusion. In the final season, Sansa secured independence for the North and became its queen, an outcome Turner believes served the character well. Despite widespread debate over the series finale, she feels Sansa received one of the most complete and rewarding endings.
HBO has already planned the future of the *Game of Thrones* universe several years ahead. *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* is scheduled to premiere in January 2026, followed by the third season of *House of the Dragon* later that year.
Although HBO has shelved a previously discussed Jon Snow sequel starring Kit Harington, Martin has confirmed that other sequel concepts remain under active consideration.
