Smart Sports Academy clinched the runners-up trophy at the 4th Sony-Smart National Shitoryu Karate Competition 2025, winning 16 gold, 18 silver and 34 bronze medals in Dhaka, a Sony-Smart press statement said on Sunday.
The Agargaon-based academy, competing under Dhaka North City Corporation, finished behind the Bangladesh Bank Karate team, which secured the championship with the highest number of gold medals.
The national event brought together 1,200 athletes — 900 male and 300 female — from 40 teams representing banks, insurance companies, districts, divisions, universities, city corporations and Bangladesh Biman.
Bangladesh National Shitoryu Karate Federation hosted the competition at the Mehfil Convention Hall in Mirpur with support from Smart Electronics Limited as the official distributor of Sony in Bangladesh.
Grand Master Ostad Jahangir Alam inaugurated the tournament.
Land Survey Tribunal Dhaka Judge Md Sirajul Islam attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and distributed awards.
Smart Electronics Head of Marketing and Smart Sports Academy Team Manager Azad Rahman and Team Manager Muhammad Jinnatul Habib were present at the ceremony.
Bangladesh Karate Federation chief instructor Mohammad Rehanuddin, Bangladesh Shitoryu Karate Federation President Md Mizanur Rahman, Vice Presidents Sheikh Wahed Ali, Samalem Hossain Biswas and Prof Ajay Dey, General Secretary Shihan Mostafizur Rahman, Joint Secretaries Mahfuzur Rahman Billal, Farman Ali, Md Jasim Uddin and Gazi Yunus and International Affairs Secretary Tarek Z also attended the event, the statement said.
Officials said the tournament underscored the growing competitiveness of national karate and the expanding athletic pipeline across clubs and institutions in Bangladesh.
