Department of Environment demolished six illegally established brick kilns in Kalia upazila of Narail as part of a day-long enforcement drive against unauthorised operations causing environmental damage.
Officials destroyed the chimneys, kilns and all raw bricks during the operation, while the Fire Service extinguished the furnaces using water to ensure a complete shutdown of activities.
The brick kilns were in Babupur Bazar, Banka-Juka, Patna and Boronal Bazar areas.
The drive on Tuesday was led by Executive Magistrate Momtaz Begum of Khulna Divisional Office of Department of Environment and conducted by Abdul Malek Mia, assistant director of the Narail district office.
Members of the district police, Ansar-VDP, Fire Service, Kalia police station and the local army camp assisted in the operation.
According to the Department of Environment in Narail, the demolished establishments included five traditional drum chimney brick kilns M/S BBC Bricks, M/S SSB Bricks, M/S Stone Bricks, M/S Chowdhury Bricks and M/S RBI Bricks and one zigzag kiln, M/S SMB Bricks.
“These brick kilns were burning wood as fuel, creating severe environmental hazards. That is why the operation was carried out. Six illegal brick kilns have been demolished,” said Executive Magistrate Momtaz Begum.
