Police detained six individuals, including five women, from the perimeter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s residence on Gulshan Avenue in Dhaka this evening.

The group had reportedly staged a sit-in in front of the house at 196 Gulshan Avenue, claiming they sought an audience with the prime minister.

Rakibur Rahman, the inspector (investigation) of Gulshan Police Station, stated that the individuals were taken into custody after providing contradictory explanations for their presence.

“They were sitting in front of the house, saying they wanted to meet him,” the officer informed the media.

Inspector Rahman added that the detainees were moved to the police station for further questioning due to their inconsistent responses regarding the purpose of their demonstration.

The identities of those detained have not yet been confirmed. Law enforcement officials noted that additional details would be made available following a preliminary interrogation.
