Following the incident of two children being rescued from severe cold in Chattogram’s Anwara Upazila, which drew nationwide attention, Bangladesh’s largest retail chain, Shwapno, handed over a cash cheque of Tk100,000 to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Anwara, Tahmina Aktar, on Wednesday in support.
Following the directive of the District Administration, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer had brought the rescued children to the office of the deputy commissioner. Sadly, one of the children, two-year-old boy Morshed, passed away while undergoing medical treatment.
After the incident was reported in the media, the matter came to the attention of Shwapno, who handed handed over the cheque as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The cheque handover ceremony was attended by Deputy Director (Category, Growth & ESG) of Shwapno Md Mahadi Faisal, General Manager (Corporate Affairs) Muhammad Tamim Khan, the rescued four-year-old girl Ayesha Akter, and Tanim, the CNG auto-rickshaw driver who first found the two children in a helpless condition by the roadside.
On Sunday evening, at the Mazargate area of Barkhain Union under Anwara Upazila, the children were found sitting by the roadside amid severe cold. A local CNG driver rescued them and informed the authorities. According to the children, a relative had left them there and disappeared.
Guided by a strong sense of humanity and social responsibility, Shwapno has consistently stood beside the underprivileged and vulnerable people of the country, and this initiative reflects that continued commitment.
