Lalon singer Shuchona Sheley is set to represent Bangladesh on the international stage with the country’s folk music. The sixth World Nomad Games will be held in the Kyrgyz Republic from September 1 to 6. She will participate in the folk song competition as part of the cultural programme, representing Bangladesh alongside her band ‘Dibyo Gyani’.
Earlier in 2025, Shuchona Sheley represented Bangladesh at an international cultural competition held in Kyrgyzstan, where she secured second place among competitors from more than 100 countries. She is now returning to the same country to participate in the cultural programme of the World Nomad Games.
Artists from different countries will perform folk songs at the competition. Shuchona Sheley and ‘Dibyo Gyani’ will showcase Bengali folk music, the philosophy of Lalon and various traditions of mystic music.
The philosophy of Lalon Shah is one of the major inspirations behind Shuchona Sheley’s artistic practice. Her repertoire includes songs by various mystic and folk musicians, including Bhaba Pagla, Monmohan Dutta, Hason Raja, Shah Abdul Karim and Matal Razzak Dewan.
Shuchona Sheley said, “Bengali folk music is not merely a part of our culture; it is deeply connected to the lives, philosophy, self-discovery and long tradition of humanity of our people. It is a matter of joy and pride for me to stand on an international stage and present these songs and their philosophy to people around the world.”
She added, “I represented Bangladesh in Kyrgyzstan in 2025 and secured second place. That experience inspired me even more. This time, I am once again representing Bangladesh at the cultural programme of the sixth World Nomad Games, together with ‘Dibyo Gyani’.”
Speaking about their performance this time, she said, “We will try to showcase through our performance the soil of Bengal, the lives of its people, Lalon’s humanist philosophy and the diversity of Bengali mystic music. Alongside doing well in the competition, our main goal is to convey the uniqueness of Bangladesh’s folk music to people around the world.”
