After Hasan Mahmud, another Bangladesh pacer could be set for a spell in English county cricket, with Shoriful Islam attracting interest from Kent.
Hasan made an impressive start to his county career with Kent this season, taking nine wickets on his County Championship debut. His performances have opened the possibility of another Bangladesh fast bowler joining the club.
According to a source close to Shoriful, Kent are interested in signing the left-arm pacer for the four remaining County Championship matches of the season.
However, Shoriful would first need permission from the Bangladesh Cricket Board before joining the county side.
His immediate priority remains Bangladesh’s upcoming Test series in Australia. Shoriful had been sidelined by a Grade 1 hamstring injury and has since completed his rehabilitation. He has also passed his fitness test.
The BCB medical team will review his rehabilitation and fitness results before giving him clearance to travel to Australia. Shoriful had been working towards returning in time for the second Test against Australia.
If he receives the necessary clearance from the BCB, Shoriful could travel to England in September after the Australia series to play county cricket.
Bangladesh had been scheduled to play a white-ball series against India in September, although there is now uncertainty over whether that series will take place.
If the India series does not go ahead and Shoriful receives a NOC from the BCB, he could join Hasan at Kent for the final part of the County Championship season.
