During the counting of votes for DUCSU elections, allegations have surfaced against Sadik Kayem, the vice president (VP) candidate from Shibir-backed Oikkoboddho Shikkharthi Jote panel, for breaching the code of conduct by entering the polling centre.
The allegation was made by assistant general secretary candidate from the Protirodh Parishad panel Jabir Ahmed Jubel, in a Facebook post on Tuesday evening.
Along with the post, he shared a photo showing Sadik Kayem standing in a room, with a clock behind him displaying the time as 5:23pm.
Several volunteers can also be seen in the room. However, it could not be independently verified by TIMES of Bangladesh whether the vote counting was actually taking place in that room.
In his Facebook post, Jubel wrote, “When polling agents from various panels raised strong protests against this incident, they were eventually forced to leave the room.”
TIMES of Bangladesh made multiple attempts to contact Sadik Kayem over phone, but he did not respond till the filing of this report.
When asked about the allegations, Dr Mohammad Jasim Uddin, Chief Returning Officer for the DUCSU elections, said, “No written complaint has been submitted to us regarding this matter. If we receive one, we will take appropriate action.”
