Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has clarified the circumstances surrounding the cancellation of Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid’s contractual appointment.
In a post shared on his Facebook page on Sunday, he said that various forms of misinformation and speculative comments were being circulated regarding the cancellation of Sheikh Abdur Rashid’s contract.
Shafiqul explained that Rashid had actually applied for exemption from his duties for personal reasons some time before the 13th parliamentary election.
However, as the elections were imminent, he agreed to continue until the end of the election period at the request of the chief adviser, ensuring the maintenance of discipline and continuity within the field administration.
Shafiqul urged all concerned parties to refrain from spreading unnecessary speculative information or misleading statements regarding the issue.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification cancelling Rashid’s contractual term.
In an immediate reaction, Rashid told Times of Bangladesh, “Contractual appointments are not good, so I am stepping down.”
Consequently, M Siraj Uddin Mia, who currently serves as the principal secretary (contractual) to the chief adviser, has been assigned the additional charge of cabinet secretary (contractual).
