A bone-chilling cold has gripped Panchagarh, recording a low of 6.8 degrees Celsius at 9am on Friday, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Dense fog and the cold northern wind blowing from the north have caused suffering for laborers, daily wage earners, transport drivers, children, and the elderly. Daily life is being disrupted by the intense cold.
Vehicular movement on the highways is being hampered due to reduced visibility caused by the fog. Many drivers were seen driving their vehicles at a slow pace. Due to the biting cold, many day laborers and low-income people in various areas are unable to go out to work at dawn.
To ward off the cold, people have been seen lighting fires with hay, dry leaves, and wood in various places in villages and cities since dawn.
For the past few days, although the sun has been visible somewhat after noon, the desired warmth is not being felt.
