The newly appointed Bangladesh Cricket Board national selection panel has taken charge from April 1. Habibul Bashar Suman is serving as chief selector, while Hasibul Hossain Shanto has continued in his role since 2024. Naeem Islam and Nadif Chowdhury have joined the panel following interviews conducted by the BCB.

Since taking over, the former national cricketers in the selection panel had not been formally introduced to the players until Sunday. On Sunday morning, the selectors were seen in a meeting with cricketers from all formats at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

A skills and fitness camp has begun for both red-ball and white-ball players. During the session, Bashar introduced his fellow selectors to the cricketers.

Speaking to Times of Bangladesh, selector Naeem Islam said, “After joining, we had not yet been formally introduced to the cricketers. Yesterday, we were officially introduced, and all members of the selection panel were present. Basic discussions took place.”

The panel’s first assignment will be to select the squad for the upcoming New Zealand series, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is to be played across Dhaka and Chattogram.

Asked whether the selection meeting has taken place yet, Naeem said, “There have been some informal discussions regarding the squad for the New Zealand series, but nothing has been finalized yet. We will try to announce the squad earlier than usual.”
