The United Kingdom continues to strengthen its economic partnership with Bangladesh, with both countries benefiting from expanding trade and investment links, the UK Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, Baroness Winterton of Doncaster DBE, said on Monday.
Speaking ahead of her meetings with government and business leaders in Dhaka, Baroness Winterton said she looked forward to identifying new opportunities that would support economic growth and prosperity for both nations.
Her visit, the third to Bangladesh, aims to reinforce and expand the longstanding UK–Bangladesh trade and economic partnership.
Arriving in Dhaka on Sunday, the Trade Envoy’s visit comes at a pivotal time following the formation of Bangladesh’s newly elected government in February.
The British High Commission said the visit underscores the UK’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s transition towards a more diversified, resilient, and high value economy.
During her stay, Baroness Winterton will meet senior ministers, government officials, and military leaders to discuss shared priorities for mutually beneficial growth.
She will also engage with business representatives, including UK companies operating in Bangladesh, to explore ways to increase bilateral trade, investment, and commercial ties.
The envoy will visit Bangladeshi exporters benefiting from the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), one of the world’s most generous trade preference programmes.
DCTS provides duty-free access for a wide range of products, simplifies rules of origin, encourages diversification beyond garments, and supports long-term economic growth and job creation.
Bangladesh is the scheme’s largest beneficiary, supplying high-quality goods to British consumers at competitive prices.
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke said shared growth and prosperity remain central to the UK–Bangladesh relationship.
She noted that Baroness Winterton’s third visit in a year demonstrates the UK’s commitment to its long-term economic partnership with Bangladesh.
The UK remains one of Bangladesh’s largest export markets and a leading partner in development and investment, with both nations continuing to explore avenues for deeper collaboration across trade, education, aviation, and defence.
